is a reproduction piece made of silver plate.
Dessert stands were fashionable as Afternoon Tea evolved
as a full-blown social event about 1900.
Dessert stands were often given as wedding gifts.
As a modern adaptation, they are a wonderful way to display tea
cups when not being used on the table for tea. The
pineapple finial is a suggestion of a warm welcome to the home.
The dome on the top tier is heavy repoussé and presents the
opportunity to serve the scones while still warm.
This is an interesting departure from the tradition of placing
savories, or tea sandwiches, on the top, as the first course of tea.
The stand includes the three silver plate 8” plates (you may also substitute your own dessert plates). The overall height is 20.” This form has been known to grace the table at the London Ritz Hotel.
